Let us start - A fresh one !

Dear 2015,

You’re another year in my timeline, but a very special one. This year, I celebrate a quarter-century of my “successful” existence on Earth, so I’m rolling out the red carpet just for you. I’m truly glad you’re finally here—I’ve been waiting for you!

You’re the year of my school reunion, a get-together of friends who shared so many joys a decade ago. It’s incredible to think how quickly time has passed since high school, and now we’re all reuniting in 2015.

I’m counting on you to bring success and recognition to my cherished people in their professional lives—and that includes me, too! I’m also looking forward to a new twist in my own career, where I hope to continue thriving alongside my beloved science.

You’ll help my “little boy” become a great doctor, and I’m incredibly excited about that. He brings so much joy and beauty into my life. He’s more than a brother—he’s my kid, my kutty payyan, my father, my mother…my everything. He’s one of those rare gems who can fill any role in my life.

You’ve made quite an entrance, and I’ll never forget it. I can’t wait to see the bliss and joy you bring to all of us. At the same time, though, there are worries. Each time a new year arrives, people (myself included) get overhyped, forgetting that life largely stays the same; it’s only the calendar that changes. We’ve made so many plans—often piling our burdens on you—so please help lighten them, especially the worries. We don’t want to spend all year drowning you in tears.

I have a few more requests, dear 2015. Could you help us balance our emotions, maybe nudge us to forgive and forget when others wrong us? Could you intervene in our wonderfully complex brains so we remember only the good and let go of the bad?

I know it’s a lot to ask. Yet every new year, people carry resolutions and the hope of becoming better versions of themselves. Here’s my biggest wish: when you’re ready to leave, I hope we can all say, “Dear 2015, you were such a darling—thank you for being so good and lovely!” If most of us feel that way, then you will truly be the best.

Fingers crossed for your miracles.

With love,
Riya
